The company also plans to launch mobile handsets with linux-based Maemo software within the next two to three months. RIM Unveils New BlackBerry App Tools

With the release of its updated tools yesterday, Research In Motion will make it easier for developers to create feature-rich Web and wireless applications to be used on it’s BlackBerry smartphones. These tools would open up access to the phone’s hardware features and other software applications of the BlackBerry application platform.

The applications are compatible with a BlackBerry’s e-mail inbox, calendar, address book and other features, reports Reuters India. “We believe these enhanced tools will spur a new level of creativity and innovation as developers find new ways to leverage the unique power and integrated nature of the BlackBerry platform in order to bring useful, intelligent applications to the millions of BlackBerry smartphone users around the world,” said Alan Brenner, senior vice president, BlackBerry platform, RIM.

This Waterloo, Ontario-based Canadian company had launched its online apps store last April, following in the footsteps of Apple’s app store success. Users can employ the apps store to download software for news and entertainment, travel, games and other such features.

MILESTONE comes preloaded with lifetime free access to fully voice-guided street-level navigable maps of 401 cities in India. This offers voice-guided navigation and routing in the cities and across major national and state highways. All the consumer needs to do is to launch ‘India’ maps from the MOTONAV application to enjoy an unparalleled navigational experience. The GPS navigation service is free with no activation or data charges, independent of mobile networks and can be used even without inserting the SIM card, as the maps are fully loaded on the MILESTONE.
